The Apple iPhone will NOT help your Real Estate Business

A couple a fellow bloggers have posted that the iPhone from Apple will be the next Realtor Technology must have. This post is in response to the bloggers over at Bloodhound Blog and Real Estate Blog Sites.

No, No, and No. This phone will NOT help you in your real estate business. Why? Because this phone will not be able to access anything you need at this time.

You can’t access the MLS (maybe you can but i don’t know).
You can’t install Supra eKey.
You can’t install any of your Mortgage Calculators.
You can’t syncronize your email with an exchange server (the best email solution)
Oh but wait “Yahoo will offer free push-IMAP email to iPhone customers”, BIG DEAL, you shouldn’t be using Yahoo anyways for a BUSINESS email address.
Their probably isn’t any GPS software for this phone (will be soon I bet)

COST!
This thing will cost more than any Palm Treo of Pocket PC phone because it looks like there is not going to be any price breaks with any length of contract.
$499 for the 4gig model and $599 for the 8gig. WOW!

Another reason it won’t help you; It’s a new device you have to learn and master and get setup to work with your laptop / desktop. It’s also a ‘new’ device. New devices always need a few months of testing, tweaking, optimizing before it really starts to work.

You can do everything I listed above NOW with a Pocket PC phone and it works. I have been using a Pocket PC phone since before they actually worked. My first PPC phone was in 1999.

I can play MP3’s on my phone and I have 2 gigs of storage.

Should you get one of these phone?
Not if you think it will help you with your business.

Now if you get one because it looks cool then I don’t blame you because I will be in line with you to get it when it comes out also.
