Lead Generation IS Dead?

Joel at Future of RE Marketing asks “Is Lead Generation Dead?” Marc Davison tells us that consumers don’t want to be called leads “I am not a lead

A new client or customer will always be called a lead no matter what a consumer thinks. It is just a term that probably every industry uses when generating new business.

What consumers are really saying is that “they won’t fall for the typical give me your details and I’ll give you access to the information you want” and “if I do give you my info don’t spam me into Real Estate oblivion” and “your website sucks because I can find all the info I need if I dig around on the web and I don’t have to give up my personal info”

So is lead generation dead? No, it is just undergoing a dramatic shift in how you do it. It used to be you could just use the shotgun approach and throw ads all over tradition methods and shotgun the internet by buying ads everywhere.

Now instead of using the shotgun method and you need to start becoming more targeted in your advertising. How you ask?

Here is a thought if you don’t want to blog. Find a blog/site about your area you focus on and sponsor their site with a Mapping IDX Real Estate Search Page. Or ask to put up an Altos Research widget on their site with a link back to your website. Here is another one: Ask to write a guest post on someone’s blog/site.

If you do the above ideas you will need to do some research and make sure this site has some descent traffic and has some user participation where your money will buy you some good exposure.

What else should you do?

Definitely follow along at all the blogs in my recommend blog section would be the first thing and then pay attention during this week to see if anything great and new comes out at Inman Connect in NYC
