Do you have an iPhone and do you use Hosted Exchange for your email?

If you do you will be happy to know that Apple announced today that they have licensed the ActiveSync technology from Microsoft.

This is great news for those of you who have an iPhone and use MS Exchange for your email.

From Engadget’s live blog of the Apple iPhone SDK Press Conference

10:07AM – “Our customers have asked us to build in MS Exchange right into the iPhone — we have licensed ActiveSync for the iPhone.” Daaamn!
10:08AM – “Microsoft has come up with a much more advanced architecture, where the iPhone can work directly with the Exchange server in a more reliable and affordable way. We’re building Exchange support so you get push email, push calendaring, push contacts, global address lists, and the ability to remote wipe it.”

Exchange is at the top of email services, even above .Mac; going into settings; you can flip on contacts, calendars, mail, and all this stuff flipping simple switches. Not bad!

This news is absolutely awesome. Microsoft Exchange is hands down the best email service out there and has even been confirmed by Apple at the conference. <rant> So to all you Mac FanBoys out there, HA! </rant>

This new functionality will be available with the next software update comes out for the iPhone. Now when they come out with a 3G iPhone I will definitely consider a new phone.

Loren, I don’t think anyone, not even the guys at Apple, ever saw .mac as an enterprise solution, so their move today was a huge step forward for the iPhone. Home run. Even if it did involve Microsoft. 🙂

I completely agree that Apple probably didn’t see .mac as an enterprise solution.

I just wanted to make a jab and the Mac people who CLAIM that MAC’s are so much better than Windows.

MAC’s are great machines and so are Windows machines.

I can’t wait for a 3G iPhone with activesync then that will be a sweet device. Will I buy one?
Probably not because I don’t like the lack of buttons.

    Yes I would be too.

BUT, you can already get what you want if you get the Tilt (8925) from ATT

It’s got 3G, GPS, Activesync and it has a qwerty Keypad

Can’t wait for the great RE apps on the iPhone. Although this is not a typical iPhone app, I have been using this iPhone friendly site. As I am frequently on the road, I need mobile access to all my favorite RE blogs. Check it out here: http://www.irealtyblogs.com/iphone/preview/

When you are on your iPhone, check it out at http://www.irealtyblogs.com. The page will display on any mobile device, but the iPhone is why I made it. It contains all the web’s great RE blogs including Inman, Zillow, Trulia, Geek Estate, Mike’s Corner, and many more.

The page allows you to share on Twitter, Digg, delicious, and your iPhone contacts.
