To succeed do you need to be tech savy?

Hello everyone. It was been a while since I have posted.

<sarcasm> I do apologize that you have not had the pleasure of hearing from me lately. <end sarcasm>

These past couple of months have been a crazy whirlwind. Lots of work and lots of fun. What have I been doing? Mostly it has been still on the teaching side of technology. Showing people how to use blog platforms, how to create Facebook Pages, how to add applications to their pages, and so much more…

Over the past few months I have been trying to find an answer to this posts question:

Do you need to be Tech Savy to succeed in this day and age.

Overall I have found the answer YES. The reason for this is because if you do not learn to use technology in an efficient manner and stay up to date on new products that help your business you will be end up becoming a dinosaur who cannot compete with more tech savy people.

I had a chat with Laurie Manny a long time ago regarding if someone can become a super blogger with out understanding how websites work. The answer is an overall NO. You can be a super blogger without understanding
the technical details of websites and blogs and how it works, but in the end you will be paying for someone to do all the setup and management for you.

Now there is nothing wrong with having someone do the setup and management of your website/blogsite. But it is still imperative that you have a least some understanding of what they are doing so you can call their bluff when they say something takes 400 hours and 20,000 dollars to complete a simple task.

Do you need to be a Tech Guru?

No.

How do you become Tech Savy?

Learning to use and understand technology is easy if you put your mind to  it. It takes a willingness to learn the nuances of how the thing works. Just like in Real Estate you didn’t know how to write a listing contract so you learned.

What ways can you learn technology?

  1. Start pushing buttons and see what they do.
  2. Learn the terms. Such as: URL is a website address.
  3. Push more buttons.
  4. Buy a magazine or a book and follow a tutorial
  5. Search the internet for tutorials (there are many to be found)
  6. Learn how the files are organized on your computer (this does help)
  7. Learn how to resize pictures.
  8. Learn FTP
  9. Hire me for a One-on-One tutoring session.

And that is how a testimonial is done. Beautiful job. My two cents that you didn’t ask for: Put a very large / recognizable icon / link (not same size as other links) in the upper right hand corner of your blog somewhere where it can be easily seen…. it is no good if it can’t be seen…. perhaps right above your “call now” section…. Phenomenal.

One genuine video testimonial like that is more valuable than a page full of written testimonials. Period.

How can the answer to that question be anything other than yes? An agent has to keep up with current technology or he will be passed by in the blink of an LED. OK, so technical abilities have admittedly skipped a few folks but you should have at least some understanding of the current tools. Stagnant is no way to so business.
