Pin It – A free Genesis child theme
I saw tweet go by from Brian Gardner of a Genesis child theme he was working on called Pin This. It looked interesting so bookmarked it for later.
Everyone is so enamored about Pinterest but really I think all the work you put into social notworking you should at least put some of that effort into your own site. It got me thinking more about about that Pin This theme.I tried finding if Brian had released/finished (it wasn’t). After finding it un-released I decided to copy and re-create it myself with some added features and then make it complete.
What I added:
- Responsive Design
- 3 new widget areas
- A slide down CTA area
- 2 widget areas in the content
- Necessary functions and script to make it work really cool
The awesome thing about this theme (at least I think so) is when you are looking at the home page there are 2 alternating widget areas that appear in between the posts.
When I thought of putting the widget area in I got close with 1 widget, but I go stuck on getting 2 widget areas to alternate on post count. So I jump on the fabulous OC WordPress Facebook Group and asked for help. Dave Jesch jumped into the rescue and created 2 functions for the theme to make the magic of 2 alternating posts work. Dave’s skills are awesome. I’ve hired him for other projects, on this project Dave donated his time and effort.
